Logo (2nd entry)

I think I have been playing around with the name since Jays funeral (Becca may know better than I, she has to put up with my ramblings more than the rest of you), but this is what I've envisioned a logo looking like for it. nothing too elaborate, while trying to keep that organic feel to it. I'm not completely sold on the placement of the tulip poplar leaf where its at, but I like it better there than I do to the left or right of the text.

i really like the poplar leaf... if you're unsure of placement, what about the three different sassafrass leaves?

but i dig the tulip poplar more, maybe.

Very nice! Tulip or sassafrass--whatever the more artistic members of the group think! But I'm in favor of leaving out the BW trees so that we don't get in to trouble for mis-using a logo. I know how fussy Cornell is about that sort of thing, and I can imagine IU is too. Student groups here can't even make t-shirts that say "Cornell" without paying for use of the name.

I didn't even think of using sassafrass leaves. I will try it out when I get home tonight.

I really like the tulip tree leaf. However, sassafras would be appropriate for many reasons. How many gallons of Pappy's did we drink for wild edibles classes? My first craft at BW was god's eyes and I used sassafras sticks. The smell of sassafras always reminds me of The Woods.

So, I really like the sassafras leaf.

nice. i was even just thinking sassafrass because it's more even with three leaves, then centering doesn't become such an issue.

but again, he tulip poplar is the indiana tree and all that.

Actually, the reason I did initially go with the tulip leaf is because the "3 tree" logo are supposed to be Tulip Poplars. I thought that to be more appropriate for BW than Sassafras, which I don't have memories of using aside from fires (Nate you know my wild edibles lessons were dependent on what we found while on the trail, and leftovers from other staff doing the lesson. Why would I ever use Pappys?)

If its all the same, I'm going to stick with the Tulip leaf for this logo.

I associate both with BW, so it's the same to me. But I guess I'm partial to the Tulip with Mike. That's the first new tree I learned at BW! (On a nature hike during my first UCP when the campers pointed out to me that as the nature instructor I ought to at least know the state tree of Indiana.) But of course, I brought home some sassafrass twigs this March just for memories, so what can I say? I guess it's up to the artist.

side note: chris (my beau) and i were hiking with the dogs sunday and spotted the first sassafras i've seen since moving to NC (9 months!). crazy!

I used photobucket to host the image T, and then attached it in a post. if you can't get it to work right, send it to me and I can help you
