timeline and thoughts

I think that if we are to go to the Woods and expect to get to do a great project by say October, not only are we going to need to come up with it, but we are going to have to raise the money for it as well. I think we are also going to need to do a site visit. Honestly, when was the last time any of us have spent a considerable amount of time there and paid attention to what needs work? BK, Bethany, and I caught up with Stone when we were out for Bruces wedding (BTW Bruce, did you see the pictures we took at the wedding? if not email me and I will forward you them) she mentioned that they just fixed up Staff housing for full time benefited staff. a possible project could be fixing up seasonal housing, or specialist housing, though I don't know what that would consist of.

so heres my suggestion; currently, we focus on something that we can do for the upcoming fall ERC/CEC (or whatever they are going by now, they went back to the "Margie" model of management) season that would directly benefit incoming seasonal staff, such as a big "care package" c/o {Insert whatever we are calling ourselves. "The Call of the Woods"?}. and we push back the actual service project to next spring at the earliest. This should give us enough time to determine what it is that we want to do, raise the money to do it, spread the word and increase our numbers, and reach out to the BW Alumni community outside of just Spring/Fall seasonal staff (ie, schools, teachers, campers of all seasons, etc). This way we can also do it right so we don't try to rush it just because we want to "do something". If we want to get together for the sake of each other, thats one thing (Austin, TX anyone?) but if we really want to give back to the woods like we are proposing, lets not half ass it.

i agree. but can we maybe set up some topic headings and stick to those, instead of posting new topics that cover items that have already been brought up? like, in order to keep the thread of an actual topic in one place.

i think aiming for spring is best, giving us time to set something up, set up goals, etc.

woohoo... outdoor ed and goal setting!

Spring would be fine with me. You're right that planning is always more complicated and time consuming than we would like. And fund raising is not simple. As far as a site visit, I'm happy to do some of that work this summer while I am at BW in August (2 weeks) and in January (a few days). Just give me some directions!

I think Mike's idea of branching out is a good one, but I think we need to be careful how we do it. A project with multiple components might be best. It's not that I'm a fan of maintaining separate groups (I like those camp people too, you know), but I think that we should avoid chaos. Too many people trying to plan and do a giant project at once might be counter productive.

as you know I am only a short drive from the woods and would be willing to do a visit when needed.

we also need to branch out and get more people on this blog to help with ideas and how many we can expect to help.

Jessie, I agree about trying to keep things threaded as best as possible, but its difficult to do using our current setup. if we used a message board with different sections for topics and threads, it would make it a bit easier. until then, I will try to not post duplicated topics

Spring is even better for me with tons of summer weddings and crap. I do also think we should start small....a little project to get ourselves started--as far as contacting schools and other organizations, we will should check with JR as to whether or not it's legally possible.

I love the idea of putting something together for the current staff....Parker did say BW could use some old style.

why don't we plan to start small this time (the initial trip) and then just plan to do something either annually, or in some other time increment?
